A very special place to relax and unwind
It is the spectacular, peaceful setting next to the sea that makes The Mill House a truly special coastal retreat. There are unbeatable open views over the sheltered bay to Holy Island, where the sky and the water meet. We are in the middle of both the Northumberland Coast, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Lindisfarne Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
We are also on the shore of the Lindisfarne Nature Reserve and are a perfect location for birdwatchers – the perfect place to while away the hours watching the waders and migratory birds as the tide rolls in, or listen to the seals calling from the sandbank at low tide. Away from city lights, on a cloudless night, the secluded rural location’s dark sky is perfect for stargazing.
Despite the peace and quiet we are just two miles from the A1, halfway between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Bamburgh, a perfect location from which to explore our beautiful coastline. If you venture inland both the Northumberland National Park and the Scottish Borders are within easy reach, and the vibrant cities of Edinburgh and Newcastle upon Tyne are both just 45 minutes away by train.
If you can pull yourself away from The Mill House there is plenty to explore in the local area including great walks and historic castles, all within easy reach. There are sandy beaches six miles away and it is just two miles to the nearest shop, pub and restaurant.
