We hope the following description will be helpful when considering whether the Mill House suits your access requirements. Please also refer to the floor plans or view our video tour (from 2012). When the house was converted to a holiday home in 2009 we were unable to meet all the current Doc-M guidelines due to the nature of the sloping site and historic building. However we improved accessibility for mobility-impaired guests by ensuring step free access to the large kitchen, dining room, sitting room and a ground floor bedroom which has an ensuite level access shower room.
The front door is step-free with a clear width of 75 cm and it leads into the 120 cm wide entrance hall. The ground floor accommodation is entirely level (except for the conservatory), and all doors have a clear opening width of at least 78 cm.
The large dining room has plenty of space around the table and a wide opening through to the spacious kitchen. The sitting room, also directly off the dining room, is nearly eight metres long by five metres wide with easily-moved furniture including an armchair with 50cm high seat. The conservatory which opens off the sitting room has two steps up at the doorway and fixed handrails at each side.
The level access ground floor bedroom opens directly off the wide entrance hall opposite the dining room. There is a large space next to the bed. The recently refurbished shower room has a comfort height WC, a slimline basin with shelf area, and a wet room style shower enclosure with glass screen (150cm x 74cm total area with a 70cm entrance). The shower has 2 well positions grab rails, an extra long shower hose and bar and we can supply a shower seat on request. We can also share a recent video of the bedroom and shower room on request.
Outside there is a large parking area within ten metres of the house. A path with three steps lit by movement sensor lights lead down to the front door. There is an alternative ramped path, which provides entirely step-free access although the first part may be steeper than 1:12 gradient. The lawned garden area and covered outside seating with large table area are next to the parking. We understand that clear information is essential for our guests.
